Auction Sellers Sometimes Are The Best Auction Buyers

Most auctioneers, who have been in business for any length of time, realize that what an auctioneer truly does is solve problems. Few people call an auctioneer when everything is rosy. People call an auctioneer because they need something sold in a definite amount of time. They may need money quickly. They may need to clear out a warehouse or manufacturing center due to the sale of the facility. They may be dealing with the estate of a parent or loved one. They may be in a dire financial situation and need to liquidate assets to raise cash. Whatever the reason, most people who call an auctioneer have a problem.

We at Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. pride ourselves on being superior problem solvers. When a client contacts us we listen to the client’s needs and develop a solution that meets those needs. It seems that Michael Jackson had a problem. His representative contacted a noted Los Angeles auction company to arrange for an auction. They packed and loaded his items. They moved his items to another location and then began the painstaking process of creating a five-volume auction catalog listing everything from his lone glove to the massive gates from Neverland.

We are good at correctly identifying and cataloging items. It is our job, as auctioneers, to represent the goods to be sold in the best light. We repair, clean, detail, polish & paint. Many times we turn the seller’s “sow’s ear” into a “silver purse”. It seems this happened with the Prince of Pop. Now he wants all his stuff back. Check the story out on E Online by clicking here.

This same thing has happened to us in our over 20 years of auction business. Many times the item a seller needs to sell has grown old in his or her eyes. However, just wait until we shine it up and start to market it. The magic that seller once saw in the item returns. We have to caution our sellers to beware of this. It is still the same item they wanted to sell. We are good at presenting it in a new light; a light that attracts attention and buyers. After all, we are problem solvers. Now if I could just find that matching glove.

Bad Economy? Buy & Sell at RMEB Inc. Whitley Auctions

Has anyone heard how bad the economy is? It seems we can hardly pass a display of new, flat screen TV’s in Wal-Mart without hearing some prognosticator spouting off about the doom and gloom. Has the world economy put the brakes on? Heck yes. This slow down in the economy has also opened several doors. With credit and money in general being tighter, many people are looking for good deals when they purchase items. Our live public auctions are a great way to buy and sell in the current economy.

More people are attending our auctions looking for good deals on items and equipment they need. Check out this link to see this is happening in Australia too. This means if you have extra tools or equipment lying around now may be a good time to sell them and turn them into cash. We broadcast our auctions live on the internet. We sell items at auction to buyers from all over the country. If you have items to sell or need to raise some extra cash, give us a call. We offer confidential, no obligation consultations. If you are looking to save some money over buying new, check out our auctions at www.whitleyauction.com. A penny saved, is a penny earned. Shop at Whitley Auctions.

56 Acre Colorado Mountain Guest Ranch Sells at Public Auction Febraury 28

Did you ever go to a dude ranch or summer camp as a kid and wish you could one day own it? Well now you have that opportunity. Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Realty LLC will sell, at Public Real Estate Auction on February 28, 2009, Alpine Mountain Ranch. Alpine Mountain Ranch is a fantastic Colorado Mountain Property with numerous potential uses. It could be used as a guest ranch, fantastic mountain home, corporate retreat, family reunion center, wedding facility, church camp, conference center, health and beauty spa, hunting camp and more.

The Colorado property includes 56 beautiful acres that border the Roosevelt National Forest. If you pack a lunch, you could leave this mountain property walking north and never leave National Forest land until you reached Wyoming. It has spectacular, panoramic Rocky Mountain views not to mention the secluded valley with a stream, beaver pond and many quiet spaces. The property is located about one mile east of Allenspark, Colorado, which is about 16 miles south of Estes Park, Colo. Alpine Mountain Ranch is easy to get to from Denver, Boulder, Loveland, Longmont, Fort Collins and Cheyenne, Wyoming. There is a paved road into the property right off state maintained Highway 7. Denver International Airport is only about an hour and a half drive. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase at Public Auction, a Colorado property like this, at a fire sale price.

The property includes a three story lodge with guest rooms totaling over 12,000 square feet, a 28 stall barn with office, tack room, lofts and turn-out pens, Four cabins, a recreation building and covered picnic area and a wonderful below ground swimming pool, hot tub and sauna building. The views from the property are breathtaking. There is direct access to the National Forest as well as a stream on the property. Bring you hiking boots and come see what could be yours.

This property was purchased in 1999 for over $1,300,000.00. The new owners then spent close to $1,000.000.00 building a new barn, adding fencing and corrals, drilling a new well, adding landscaping, completely remodeling and updating the large lodge and more. It was appraised in 2002 for $3,000.000.00. The real property will be sold at Public Auction subject to a minimum bid of $1,100,000.00 including the buyer's premium. The contract to buy and sell real property will contain no contingencies for financing or anything else. The property will be sold in its present as-is condition. Closing will be on or before March 13, 2009. Brokers can earn 2.8% on this transaction

The owners spared no expense in outfitting this property. The lodge is furnished with Mission and Rustic style furniture. There is a complete commercial kitchen. We will also sell all of this high-end personal property separately at the auction. You will now have the opportunity to purchase these items at your best bid. This is an extremely short notice auction. Visit our websites at http://www.whitleyauction.com/ or http://www.rmebrealty.com/ for updates, photos and much more information.

Mountain property like this seldom is available to purchase at auction let alone at a minimum bid like this. Do your homework and see what this property is truly worth. Someone is going to get a super deal on this property at the auction. We hope it is you. See complete information, auction bidder's packet and updated auction terms at http://www.whitleyauction.com/ or http://www.rmebrealty.com/. Online bidding is available here. RMEB Inc. Whitley Auction Wins Big At Colorado Auctioneers Convention in Denver

Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. recently won, in a big way, at the 2009 Colorado Auctioneers Association Convention held in Denver, Colorado. Many people recognize the bright yellow auction brochures created by the auction marketing staff at RMEB. RMEB won the brochure categories Antiques, Collectibles, Estate & General Household, Real Estate Residential or Farm and Ranch, Farm & Ranch Livestock, Machinery and Equipment. They also won the top award for company promotional items. This is not the first time RMEB has won auction advertising and marketing awards on a state level but Jaime Foote, RMEB Auction Coordinator stated, “I do believe this is the most awards we have won in a year. It is an honor to be recognized by the CAA.”

Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers was one of the first Colorado Auction Companies to tap into the power of the internet. RMEB CEO David P. Whitley said, “Many of our auctions do not justify the cost of a full color brochure. We use our two color auction brochures and postcards to drive traffic to our websites at www.whitleyauction.com and www.rmebrealty.com.” RMEB’s website has previously been recognized as the top Colorado Auction web site. Whitley added, “Our web sites have allowed us to dramatically increase the exposure of the auctions we conduct. Not only do we offer live internet bidding for all of our auctions, we also post hundreds of photos of all the items for sale.”

Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. is a full service Auction & Real Estate company that conducts successful Auctions, estate sales & liquidations in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Greeley and the entire states of Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska onsite or at our Auction house located in Eaton Colorado using award winning Auctioneers. We auction and sell real estate and personal property including industrial equipment, vehicles, trucks, tools, antiques, coins, fine art, firearms, cars and complete estates. Auctioneers Attend Colorado Convention in Denver

Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. Auctioneers and managers recently attended the Colorado Auctioneers Association Convention held in Denver, Colorado. While there, they attended seminars on auction methods and continuing auction education. National experts in their areas of expertise presented these seminars. Real Estate auctions are a hot topic. There were several opportunities to learn about new, cost efficient ways to market and sell real estate at auction. David Whitley, RMEB CEO and lead Auctioneer said, “As the economy and real estate market has weakened, we have been inundated with requests from people to conduct real estate auctions. We are always looking for more ways to effectively market and sell real estate in a short period.

A nationally acclaimed author and speaker presented two seminars on time management and organization. Auctioneer Casey Giddings stated, “Our clients keep us incredibly busy. Time management is one of our most important tools in the auction business.” Casey also participated in the Colorado Champion Auctioneer Contest. She made everyone at RMEB very proud of her auctioneering skills.

Everyone at RMEB believes in constantly learning so that we can provide superior service to our clients. The Colorado Auctioneers Association 2009 Convention was not only educational for us it was fun. We live, breathe and sleep (when we get to sleep!) the auction business. We look forward to meeting you and discussing how we can solve your problems.

Neurosurgeon, Commander, Lawyer, Engineer

We handle the liquidation of over 100 estates a year here in the Denver and Colorado Front Range Area. Most of the items from these estates end up being sold at Public Auction, either onsite or at our Eaton Auction Center in Downtown Eaton, Colorado. Some of the estates we handle are more memorable than others. We have recently been hired to liquidate an estate I am sure we will all remember for some time.

Long time Denver resident Dr. Lawrence M. Robertson passed away unexpectedly recently. The Personal Representative of his estate hired us to liquidate all his personal property on VERY SHORT NOTICE! Dr. Robertson was well known in Denver, Colorado and the surrounding states. Not only was he a Neurosurgeon but he was also a US Navy Commander, Electrical Engineer and Law School Graduate. In his spare time he loved building model aircraft and adding to his huge model railroading collection. I never was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Robertson but I am sure he was a very interesting man. We learn about people as we sort through their personal belongings in preparation for an estate sale or auction.

Dr. Robertson’s Estate includes some wonderful merchandise. There are some great old family antiques including an original Maria pot, Kachina dolls, a rare 1860 US Calvary Civil War sword with the original belt & brass eagle belt buckle, antique furniture, artwork, new and like new tools, antique medical instruments, over 100 model airplanes, over 1000 scale model train items, medical, law and other books, laboratory items and tons more. Visit www.whitleyauction.com to see the complete details and all the items in this auction. Check out some of these items in the slide show below.

Dr. Robertson’s office was located at 1635 Gilpin in the Capital Hill area of Denver. Due to an extreme lack of parking, we will be selling all of his possessions at an internet only auction. This is just like a live auction except there is no auctioneer and all the bidding takes place over the internet. The auction items will all be posted online so anyone can view the items and place his or her best bids. At 1:10 PM on Saturday, September 27, 2008 the auction will start to close with lot number one. Each successive item will close every thirty seconds until all the items are sold.

If you have bid on eBay before then you will have no problem bidding here. We even make it easier to make sure you win. There is an auto-extend feature that extends the closing time on any item that receives a bid in the last five minutes of the bidding. This feature keeps extending the item’s ending time until no more bids are received. This helps to prevent last second sniping. Many times more than 50% of the bids come in during this extended bidding time. Of course, you can always just leave your best bid beforehand and not watch the closing. Learn about this auction at our auction website, www.whitleyauction.com.

Make sure and check out all of Dr. Robertson’s items. It is interesting what you can learn about a person from the possessions they had. If you are handling an estate or downsizing, feel free to contact us for free advice. Most people only handle one estate in their life. We have handled thousands and can surely help you with what seems to be an overwhelming task.

Happy Auctioning!

David

DAVID P. WHITLEY JOINS COLLEAGUES IN WASHINGTON DC FOR AUCTION ACTION ON CAPITOL HILL DAY

Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. Auctioneer David P. Whitley CAI CES recently joined fellow members of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) in Washington, DC for the association’s annual Auction Action on Capitol Hill Day. This annual event brings industry leaders from across the nation to meet with members of Congress to educate them about the quarter-trillion dollar live-auction industry and discuss issues of concern to professional auctioneers.

Participants this year educated members of Congress about the current foreclosure crisis and the current system for disposing of foreclosed home. Contrary to popular belief, professional auctioneers do not manage the sales of foreclosed home at public auction and the reality is that the majority of foreclosure auctions fail, costing distressed homeowners their homes and equity, as well as costing the American taxpayer billions of dollars.

Whitley is a member of the National Auctioneers Association and the Colorado Auctioneers Association. He is the President and CEO of Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. and has been an active member in the auction industry for 23 years.

“I was honored to join my fellow auctioneers in Washington DC to discuss with members of Congress the foreclosure crisis impacting our country and educate them about the current system which is flawed, “ said Whitley. “ There is a better solution available for homeowners and America’s taxpayers when selling federally insured homes at foreclosure auctions and I am excited to be part of the discussion and potential solution.”

Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. and its sister company Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Realty LLC provide quality auction and auctioneering services to the Rocky Mountain Region. Through its staff, they service Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska clients that desire professional auction services and sales for real estate and personal property. They offer live, real-time internet bidding on most of their auctions and have sold items to buyers from all over the USA, Mexico, Canada, Germany and other countries. Auctioneers David P. RMEB Auctioneers and staff attend National Auctioneers Association Conference and Show in Nashville Tennessee.

Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. Auctioneers and staff recently attended the National Auctioneers Association Conference and Show in Nashville Tennessee. While there, they attended educational offerings on live online auctions, promoting and marketing real estate auctions, ring man skills, employing innovative marketing techniques and more. Auction industry leaders taught these classes. RMEB Auctioneer Casey Giddings CAI, from Fort Collins, Colorado stated, “This is the one place professional auctioneers can come to not only learn about new auction techniques but to share what works for us as well”.

David P. Whitley CAI CES, RMEB’s lead Auctioneer, was one of five auctioneers chosen to sit on a panel discussing ways to start and build a successful auction business. He said, “Our auction company has been attending state and national auction association events for years. We have learned from some of the best in the business. When we have the opportunity to share what works for us with newer members of this profession we consider it an honor and a privilege.” Over 1400 NAA members and their families attended the convention.

Both Giddings and Whitley competed in the International Auctioneer Contest. Contest chairman Paul Behr CAI stated, “This group of contestants makes up some of the best auctioneers in the world”. While neither came home with the Champion’s trophy, both did very well in the competition. Giddings said, “Auctioneering in this contest is a very good way for me to continually work on being a better auctioneer. It would be nice to win but it is nicer to know I am always becoming better at what I do.”

RMEB Auctioneers to Compete for International Auctioneer Championship Title

Fort Collins, Colorado may soon be the home of the world’s best auctioneer if David Whitley or Casey Giddings have anything to say about it. Casey and David will be joining over 90 auctioneers from across the world in Nashville at the 59th International Auctioneers Conference and Show to compete in the 20th International Auctioneer Championship competition. The male and female winners of this competition are regarded by the auction industry as being the best in the world.

These competitors will be judged on their presentation, chant, voice quality, body language and other elements of effective auctioneering. There is also an interview segment of the competition that participants will be judged on. The finalists will compete on Friday, July 11, 2008 before over 1,000 of their peers at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel and Nashville Convention Center in Nashville, TN. The winners will receive a $10,000 cash prize, trophy and become the spokespersons for the National Auctioneers Association before the media and state auctioneer associations across the country. One of the highlights of their reign as IAC champions include auctioneering at the St. Jude Toy Auction for the patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The IAC Champions sell toys donated by the National Auctioneers Association to patients who use play money to bid on the toys.

RMEB CEO David Whitley attends NAA long range planning meeting in Spokane, WA.

Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. lead auctioneer and CEO David P. Whitley CAI CES recently attended a special long range planning meeting for the National Auctioneers Association held in Spokane, Washington June 3-5, 2008. Incoming NAA president Randy Wells chose twenty auctioneers from across the United States to work with him to develop a long-term plan for the continued success of the NAA. He employed a professional facilitator to help the group arrive at twenty long-term goals the association should strive to attain in the coming years.

Whitley said, “I was honored to be asked to be a member of this group. The auction business has been affected by many changes the last few years.” The twenty members of the group represented some of the world’s largest, most successful auction companies. “I may have been the member from the smallest auction company. I was pretty impressed to be sitting in a room with a vice-president from Ritchie Brothers. Even though there were many powerful auctioneers there, I really felt like my opinion mattered,” Whitley added. He stated, “We spent three long days talking about ways the NAA can better serve its members. I believe that any organization that serves its members well will increase its membership in the long run.”

Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. and its auctioneers are members of the National Auctioneers Association, The Colorado Auctioneers Association and the Wyoming Auctioneers Association. Three of RMEB’s auctioneers hold the prestigious Certified Auctioneers Institute CAI designation. Whitley said, “Successful auction are our business. We know that our membership in professional organizations keeps us on the leading edge of the auction profession. We are always looking for better ways to serve the needs of our auction clients.” He added, “Things like this long range planning meeting are an invaluable networking tool for us. Meeting these other auctioneers and becoming their friends gives RMEB a nation-wide network of expertise to draw from.”

Whitley CAI CES Auctioneer and CEO of Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. and Bob Johnson CAI broker for Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Realty LLC recently attended the National Auctioneers Association’s six-day Accredited Auctioneer of Real Estate course held in Gaithersburg, Maryland. “AARE was an intense six days of learning and sharing,” Whitley said after returning to Colorado. “Class lectures were a small part of this designation program. We spent a lot of time working on group projects and discussing how different auction companies do things. AARE brings together auctioneers who are serious about selling real estate at auction. Bob and I learned several things we will put to work for our clients immediately,” he added.

The National Auctioneers Association states, an auctioneer with the AARE designation has gone the 'extra mile' to ensure they offer the highest level of professionalism and the most up-to-date information when it comes to selling properties. Whether selling residential, agricultural, commercial or industrial properties, AARE auctioneers have enhanced knowledge in all pertinent areas, such as:

  • Marketing techniques
  • Financial/investment calculations
  • Evaluating cash flow
  • Holding-period analysis
  • Tax consequences of buying and selling properties
  • Multi-parcel real estate auctions

RMEB staff attends 2008 Colorado Auctioneer's Association Convention.

Three members of the Rocky Mountain Estate Brokers Inc. team recently attended the Colorado Auctioneers Association annual convention held in Denver, Colorado January 4-6 2008. David P. Whitley CAI CES, Casey Giddings CAI and Jaime Foote all enjoyed the education and camaraderie at the 50th anniversary meeting. They attend classes on bid calling, auction technology, marketing and more.

Casey Giddings competed in the 2008 CAA bid calling championship. She did an excellent job and everyone at RMEB was very proud of her. After the contest Giddings stated, "A contest like this is very intimidating for any auctioneer. Most people are nervous getting up in front of a small group of people to speak. Auctioneers do that every day. We learn to deal with our nerves a bit. Getting up in front of a room full of auctioneers adds an entirely new dimension to that nervousness. Even though I did not win the contest this year, I will be back. This makes me a better auctioneer."
